Bora Bora : The Most Beautiful Island on Earth

By on Oct 27, 2014

If heaven were a place on earth, it would definitely be Bora Bora. Bora Bora is an island in the French Polynesia, located about an hour flight from Tahiti. It has crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches, it would seem as if the hour flight was a warm hole to heaven because it would be hard to believe that such a beautiful place exists on earth.

Other than being known as the most beautiful island on the planet, Bora Bora is also often called “The Romantic Island” as couples from all over the world have gone there and discovered the true meaning of romance.

If you want to experience a piece of heaven on earth, then here are a few things you should know about Bora Bora.

History

The island was not always a French colony. Polynesian settlers first discovered it in the 4th century. James Cook, a well-known British explorer landed on the islands in 1770 but the France converted the islands into one of their colonies in 1888.

During World War II, the islands became a US military supply base. Although the US fortified the island with artillery guns at several locations, it remained untouched by the war. The current airstrip at Bora Bora was actually built by the American military during this time.

Activities

When you’re here, you will most likely be tempted to spend the whole day basking in the sun and swimming in the warm waters. While doing so won’t be a bad idea, Bora Bora also offers a handful of other activities you can do and sites to see.

For instance, instead of just swimming in the shallow lagoon, you might want to hop on board one of the catamaran sailboats to explore the lagoon. You could also take a guided tour through winding forest roads and get a view of the lagoon from high up on the mountains.

It’s also a good idea to spend a little bit of time with the locals, and this doesn’t just mean the human population, but also the various marine life that thrives in the surrounding waters. The memory of Bora Bora will last for a lifetime, but since you’re there, you might as well shop for some items that will reinforce that memory from time to time.

Accommodation

InterContinental Hotel Bora Bora

Modernization is almost always the reason why so many beautiful places on earth loose their innocence. Technology and modern living does not often go hand in hand with nature. Fortunately, this isn’t the case with Bora Bora. Some of the most prestigious hotel chains are located on the island, and they have managed to preserve its beauty and mix the comforts of modern living at the same time.

Staying at one of those hotels will definitely not be on the itinerary of a budget traveler. Fortunately, there are almost a dozen smaller hotels and lodges where budget conscious travelers can stay and experience the magic of Bora Bora without breaking the bank.

Visiting Bora Bora is a life changing experience and one that you’ll never forget. You may even want to experience the magic again.
