Attractions of Callao-Peru

Callao is a town of great historical significance with many of the attractions within its boundaries having a story to tell about the past. From retired marine vessels to disintegrating forts, everything in the Peruvian city has a story to tell.

  • The Abtao - the Abtao is a retired 19 century submarine that was used in fighting the naval wars for over 48 years. The Abtao completed 5000 plus deep sea dives and was involved in several rescue missions. However, her days as a wolf class submarine are over and today she stands as a museum housing great naval stories of the past in pictures and artifacts.
  • Fotaleza del Real Felipe - this is a fort that was a stronghold during the 17th century, when gold trade was a heavy revenue earner for Peru. The fort was built after a massive tsunami hit Callao part and killed thousands. The fort was designed by the a French architect Louis Godin, who made sure its design brought forth the extra fortification the town needed against pirate attacks. The Fort was built near the harbor that was used to ship galleons of gold out of Peru.
  • La Punta - this town is famous for its beaches. Your Lima International Airport car hire will suffice in taking both you and your family to the sandy shows. It’s a beautiful place to be clean with crystal waters flowing from the horizon to the shore and lots of soft round stones and sand. There are plenty of water activities you can carry out here and don’t worry about drowning because several lifeguards patrol the area in red.
  • Mar Adentro - before you fly back home, you have to try this wildlife tour thrill. Only that this is a different kind of game drive; instead of a car you will be on a two-engine power boat sailing through the Callao marine side viewing the several bird species, pelicans and Seagulls. There are over 60 species of birds that are migratory and show up in seasons.

Peru is worth every bit of time you spend there with your spouse or family. It will leave you with a good feeling as you return the rental car back to Lima International Airport.
