About Lorient

Lorient is a beautiful historical city dating back to the 18th century. It is famous as a sailing resort town with a range of attractive hot spots spread along the coastal line of south Brittany. The town came under severe attack during World War II as it was a major port hub in the region. The attacks also laid siege to some of the important historical buildings in the area with some of them being totally destroyed.

Despite such hardships the city still retains its old world charm and is a terrific base for exploring the lovely coastal region. Visits to architectural sites that survived the ravages of war, including the watchtower, Maison de L Imprimeur and historical museum are fascinating ways to spend your afternoons during a visit to Lorient.

Getting Around

Some of the most scenic areas in the region are accessed by ferry boat. However, to head towards the sunny and sandy beaches the best mode of travelling in the city is via a rental car. A hire car provides you with greater mobility to plan your trip including as many places of interest as you want. While beach buffs would enjoy heading towards La Plage de Perillo or La Plage de La Falais the outdoor adventure types would thrive on a visit to Scorff Valley with its many hiking trails.
